How is Fega Barramundi Different?
Fega is one of the world’s leading barramundi fish producers placing great emphasis on producing a superior product which is traceable, sustainable and produced within an integrated environment. From the hatchery to harvest, Fega Barramundi is produced in the deep-blue salt waters of the Java Sea, 40 nautical miles north of Jakarta, Indonesia. This area of the Java Sea is free from pollution, testament to its distance from the Java mainland.
Fega has been innovating advanced methods of aquaculture with a dedication to the environment for over 20 years. It is this dedication that inspired Fega to explore the seas as an alternative to the farming of fish. As a result, Fega leads the way in the farming of Barramundi in open-ocean cages. The cages run 90 to 120 meters in circumference and float in the Java Sea. They are moored in water 25 to 40 meters deep allowing plenty of room between the cages and sea floor. This is important because the sea’s currents disperse and naturally recycle the organic by-products from the fish every minute. This constant flushing of water through the cages ensures an ideal highly-oxygenated environment. To prevent any fish from escaping and potential predators from entering, a strong netting material is used. Additionally, no potentially harmful antifouling chemicals are used on the cage’s nets which could hurt the flora and fauna.
Fega Barramundi is a superior, cleaner tasting fish with firm, white to translucent flesh which is ideal for all cooking methods. There is no muddy or off-flavor which is typically associated with fish farmed on land or close to the coast where pollution can occur. The near perfect environmental farming conditions ensure the production of a first-class product.
